Download and install MS SQL Server
This chapter presents a case of installing the SQL server needed for functioning of the on-premises installation of PANTHEON.
Example is for SQL Server 2019.
The user installation is presented as follows:
From the following link, the person responsible downloads the program package for installing Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Express:

After downloading, the user runs the SQL2019-SSEI-Expr.exe installation package with full administration rights (right-click and selecting Run as administrator).
A program package for downloading necessary installation files for Microsoft Server SQL Express opens.
In the first step, the user selects Download media.
In the second step, the user selects the Express Core checkbox, selects the location of the new download and continues the download by clicking the Download button.
The Wizard starts downloading the files required for installation to the location on your hard drive set in the previous step.
After the download is finished, the user opens the folder, where the installation package is downloaded, by clicking the Open folder button.
The Wizard can be closed by clicking the Close button.
After downloading the installation package for the SQL server, the user runs the package with full administration permissions.
This is done by right-clicking and selecting the option Run as administrator.
The user selects the path on the disc, where the installation package will be prepared. The user continues the installation by clicking the Ok button.
The program expands the files required for installation. When all files are prepared, a new SQL Server Installation center window opens.
In the left menu in the SQL Server Installation Center, the user selects Installation, and New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation in the right menu.
In the first step of setup (License Terms) of the SQL Server 2019, the user accepts the license terms by clicking the I accept the license terms and Privacy Statement checkbox. Installation is continued by clicking the Next > button.
In the second step of the setup (Global Rules), the program checks whether your computer meets all the installation conditions.
In the next step, the user can select the optional automatic update (Microsoft Update). In this case, the user leaves the selection empty. After optionally selecting, the user continues to the next step by clicking the Next > button.
The installation package checks all components necessary for installation. After checking, the process is moved to the next step (Install Rules).
The installation package checks the installation rules. As no errors are found, the user continues to the next step by clicking the Next > button.
In the Feature Selection step, the user checks the paths where Instance root directory, Shared feature directory in Shared feature directory (x86) is being installed.
The user leaves the default paths and continues to the next step (Instance Configuration).
In the Instance Configuration step, you can name your instance and set the instance identity.
In this case, the user names the instance and ID DATALAB.
If the user does not name the instance, it is named MSSQLSERVER by default.
In the Server Configuration step, you can choose between two tabs: Service Accounts and Collation.
In the case where you are installing a database that is classified according to the Slovenian database classification, you must check the Collation tab.
The Database Engine selected must be Slovenian_CI_AS. If the Slovenian regional settings have been previously set up, the installation automatically selects the correct target collation.
In the Database Engine Configuration step, be careful that the Mixed Mode (SQL Server authentication and Windows authentication) checkbox is selected as the Authentication Mode on the Server Configuration tab.
This means the installation also creates the SA (System Administrator) user within your SQL server.

For the selected (SA) user, a strong password is recommended.

Clicking the Add Current User button adds the Window user that is installing the SQL server in the installation (for Windows authentication login on SQL server).
If desired, you can also add another Window users by clicking the Add ... button.
The user goes to the Data Directories tab, where the user sets a path for SQL database restoration (data, log) and the path for the backup copy.
It is recommended that a C:\#sql folder is previously made on the disc, and within the folder additional folders for data, log and backup.
The user goes to the Memory tab, checks the Recommended checkbox and selects the general terms.
To function, SQL Server Express can use at most 2 GB of RAM.
When the Database Engine Configuration settings are finished according to the instructions, you can continue to the next step.
The next step of the installation moves to the installation phase (Installation Progress).
The user waits to finish the SQL server setup.
The installation speed depends on the computer performance.
After finishing the installation, in the Complete step, the user closes the window by clicking the Close button.
If a Install successful message appears in the Detail window, the SQL Server 2019 Express has been installed to the work station successfully.
