Name (m)

Enter the name, i.e. address, of the POP3 server from which the incoming email is received. If you have your own email server, then enter its name, and if you use an email server from your ISP, then enter that name.

POP3 port (u)

Enter the POP3 protocol code for accessing your provider's server.

The default value is: 110.

Timeout (sec) (u)

Enter a timeout specifying how many seconds PANTHEON should test the connection before it stops testing.

This value must be numeric!

User name (u)

Enter the login details for your email address.

Depending on the email provider, enter your user name or email address.

Password (u)

Enter the password linked to your email address.

Use TLS/SSL (u)

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and its successor Transport Layer Security (TLS) are cryptographic protocols that enable secure communication over the Internet, for example for web browsing, email and instant messaging. There are slight differences between the two protocols, however, in principle, they are identical.

Select Yes or No from the drop-down list.

The default option is Yes.

SASL (Simple Authentication and Security Layer) is a security framework for authentication and data security in Internet protocols.

Force TLS 1.2

Certain servers use TLS encryption, including Gmail.

If TLS encryption is required by the mail server, check this checkbox.

Test POP3

Checks whether the POP3 server settings are properly configured.

The program reports in an information window whether the connection has been successfully established or not.

There are slight differences between the two protocols, however, in principle, they are identical.

HINT Only forces TLS 1.2 for a secure socket. PANTHEON also supports TLS 1.2 for email communication. PANTHEON supports the older SSL protocols, TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1, which are required for clients residing on older mail servers without support for the newer TLS 1.2. Most servers will select the most commonly supported protocol.   Some servers disable client support for older protocols. In this case, you need to force the newer TLS 1.2 protocol to support email communication on these servers. If you select this option, PANTHEON will only publish support for TLS 1.2 in the secure communication layer. This means that the connection will be the most secure and the connection process will be the fastest.

EHLO

HELO is an Extended Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (ESMTP) command sent by an email server to identify itself when it connects to another email server and starts sending an email. It is followed by the domain name of the sender's email server. The EHLO command tells the receiving server that it supports ESMTP-compatible extensions.

Use POP3 account (u)

The username and password are usually the same for POP3 and SMTP servers.

Check the checkbox to specify that you want to use the username and password information from the POP3 incoming server.

Test SMTP

Checks whether the SMTP server settings are properly configured.

The program reports in an information window whether the connection has been successfully established or not.

UseSMTP account (u)

Check this checkbox if you want to set the IMAP server to explicitly use the SMTP server for outgoing mail. This is the most common use case in practice (sending via IMAP more often than not has some internal value/option specified, where copying a message to a specific folder behaves like sending that message to the recipient – the "Outbox" designation is used for this purpose in such a case).

Test IMAP

Checks whether the IMAP server settings are properly configured.

In case sending an email via IMAP fails due to any error, an attempt is made to send using SMTP (backwards compatibility). In this case, proper settings must be configured for the SMTP server (backwards compatibility was not ensured here, because an attempted SMTP sending after an IMAP error defaulted to SMTP port 25, which is not an option given the current separate SMTP settings). A configuration using SMTP based on an IMAP send error can now be configured to preset the sending via SMTP (see the corresponding checkbox in the IMAP section) instead of triggering an IMAP error and then trying to use SMTP.
