Security roles for Analysis server
Analysis server works through Windows authentication. Therefore, each user that would use databases on analysis server has to have access to these databases. There are two options to grant user access: one is restricted where you can limit access to individual cube and the other in unrestricted where user can access to all the cubes and databases on the server.
Assigning roles to users - Restricted
AS enables you to create roles on individual cubes (e.g. management, stock manager, accountant…). This setting enable only partial access do data as you can configure access only to individual user.
To define these roles, follow the steps below:
1. Connect to Analysis server
2. Add new role to individual cube
3. Define a name and description for individual role
4. Set rights for created role on individual cube
5.Associate Windows users to created role
Assigning users as Analysis server administrators - Unrestricted
This approcach will set very user as Analysis server administrators so all of them will have access to all databases and cubes.
To define these roles, follow the steps below:
1. Connect to Analysis server
2. Open Analysis server properties on right click to server
3. Open security tab
4. click Add, search for desired Windows user and confirm it.
