Touch Menu
General
This module is meant for editing the keyboard with quick item access and item groups. The user can set the position of an individual button, its color, size and the text shown on the button. The user can also use a picture instead of a description of an item. To get to the BUTTON EDITOR, select the newPOS TOUCH icon on the desktop.
Keyboard Settings
OPEN – the TOUCH MENU LABEL window opens with the following input bars:
- Code – enter a label/code by using an external or the on-screen keyboard (the KEY button).
- Description – enter a name in the same way.
- Number of columns – enter the desired number of columns (in our case we decided for 7 columns).
- Number of rows – enter the desired number of rows (in our case we decided for 7 rows).
- Number of columns for groups – enter the desired number of columns for groups (in our case we decided for 3). The number of rows cannot be different from the number of rows in the previous point.
- Font size – enter the desired font size that will appear on the buttons (in our case we decided for size 10).
- Leave the first level empty – to leave the first level empty tick this option. The first button menu will be empty so that you can set up new buttons manually.
- Sort by item name – if ticked, the sequence of buttons will automatically be set to alphabetical.
- Confirm with OK.
A keyboard with the code 01 and the description new 7x7 keyboard opens, as selected (the description is in the top right). There are no buttons on the keyboard (if you ticked the Leave the first level empty box), only outlines. You can see that there's room for another column. Let's fix that.
- Press the OPEN button and return to the previous window. In the keyboard list, position yourself on the one labeled 01 new keyboard.
- Press the CHANGE button and in the row Column number instead of 7 enter 8 and confirm with OK.
- When viewing the new keyboard with the fixed number of columns, you can see that the space for buttons is completely filled.
- Choose the OPER button from the three listed options.
- The SELECT window opens with a list of possible operations. In our case that was the Automatically create all touch buttons operation. Confirm your selection twice and the program will automatically create all touch buttons for all item groups and for the appropriate items from an existing list of groups and items.
- The item groups are in three columns, because we set that up in the setting of the keyboard (it could only have been 2). You can change that by pressing the OPEN button, then select the CHANGE button in the TOUCH MENU LABEL and in the row number of columns for groups instead of 3 enter 2, and confirm. When viewing the keyboard select the OPER button again and in the SELECT window confirm the Automatically create all touch buttons operation twice. On the left side you'll see only two columns for item groups instead of the previous three. The position of the item buttons changes automatically.
If you click on any of the spaces with a button, rows with the following labels will appear in the top right:
- On which level you are
- In which column you are
- In which row you are
- The text on the button
- The description of the action for the button, meaning what procedures the program will activate when the button is pressed
- Item price – taken from the price list.
In our case we selected the item Mineral water. We weren't satisfied with the item description, which is why we fixed it manually in the Text line. We could see the result immediately on the button. Then we wanted to move the button to another location. We selected the Mineral water button and used the Save key, because we had been editing it. We selected Mineral water again and pressed Copy, selected a new location by clicking it and then pressed Paste. The same button appears in the selected location. We used this particular operation for a special reason: to show, how to move an item button to a completely different location – even to another item group.
Then we selected the other Mineral water and pressed the Cut button. We opened a new item group, Wine, in the wine group, where Mineral water isn't present, but would be welcome. We selected an empty button space and pressed the Paste button again. The button for mineral water appeared in the selected space.
Now we want to change the color of the button so that it's different from the wine buttons. We select the button and choose the color (blue in our case) in the menu on the right. The color of the button changes to blue. We also want to change the size from 1x1 to 1x1. We need do nothing else but click the editing menu on the desired button size option and the size of the button will change. But now the text on the button isn't appropriate because it was split in the previous steps. That can be fixed in the Text line in the top right and the text will be fixed on the button. If everything is as it should be, the changes on the button can be saved with the Save key.
Let's see how we can move a button to a new location on the same keyboard. Click on the item button and press the Cut button, select a new location and simply press Paste and the button will be in its new place.
Here's an example how to manually add items from a list to any group. Press the New level button and then locate an empty field on the keyboard, where you want to add a new item. Then press the OPER button to open the SELECT window, where you can choose a desired type of operation. Select, for example, the Add item button and confirm with OK. A new window will appear called ITEM LIST. Enter a few letters to search for the items and then select the desired item (e.g. Fruit salad) and press OK to confirm. The same can be done for any number of items. Instead of a dreary button with some text you want an exciting picture on it from your picture database. Select the desired button and press the OPER button. In the SELECT window, select the choose picture line and confirm with OK. A list of available pictures opens. Select the one you want and confirm with Open and it immediately appears in its spot on the touch keyboard. You'll see that the picture already includes the name of the item and that the item description text appears over it. You can fix that by deleting the item description in the Text window in the top right. Confirm by pressing Save key and finish the process by pressing the CLOSE button.
Lastly, let's take a look at the setup for special functions buttons. Press the OPEN button again to open the TOUCH MENU LABEL window. Select the Toolbar row, which is the row with the function buttons (up to 5 buttons) in the lower left. They're there for special actions/functions that can be selected according to your needs. Confirm your selection with OK and 5 button spaces appear in the button field. In our case, two had already been preset. If you'd press one of these buttons, the location, color, description and action for each individual button would appear. Instead, click on one of the empty space on the left, then the OPER button, and select one of the preset actions in the SELECT sub-menu. Press OK to confirm it and the button will appear in the desired spot. Its action will already have been defined, but you can still change the color of the button, after which you can save it with the Save key.
