Entering Work Operations

For entering more detailed data about work operations lines in the Basic Bill of Materials, use the Operations tab. To add items to the lines, the item type must be defined as Service.

The following case shows how to enter work operation lines.

CASE SUMMARY

Marc Manufacture is going to add work operation O – Sewing into a line and connect it to resource SE3002 – Sewing Machine 3002, then define production times. Lastly, Marc checks that the correct materials are linked to the operation. This is done as follows:

  1. Opening the Operations tab
  2. Creating a new line
  3. Adding resources to the work operation
  4. Defining times
  5. Linking materials to the work operation

1. Opening the Operations tab

The person responsible for adding work operations selects the Operations tab in the window for editing basic BOMs of the Basic Bill of Materials for item LARA3 that has been created in the Creating a Basic Bill of Materials case.

2. Creating a new line

When the Operations tab is selected, an empty sub-form appears.

Selecting the (Insert Record) button opens a new line and automatically numbers it, in this case with the number 30.

In the Item field, the person responsible selects the operation O – Sewing. Data from the Items Register is automatically filled in.

WARNING

To be entered into work operations lines, items must be defined as services.

Selecting the Save button saves the line. With its specifications, it is visible in the table on the Operations and BOM tabs.

3. Adding resources to the work operation

The person responsible continues by entering general data of the operation and leaves the automatically filled in data as is.

To add resources linked to the work operation, the person responsible selects the magnifying glass icon that appears after clicking the drop-down menu in the Resources section in the lower right corner of the form.

A search form opens, where the person responsible finds SE3002 – Sewing Machine and selects it by double-clicking the mouse or selecting the Confirm button.

WARNING

With PANTHEON, you can already define the outside operation your cooperant is going to carry out as a part of the Basic BOM. Then, you report the cooperant’s work to the operation via a work order. Later, these external operations can be simply linked to a consolidated invoice from the work order.

4. Defining times

Besides data automatically filled in by PANTHEON from the Resources Register, the person responsible fills in data about different production times.

In the Tpr Manufacture or technical time field, the person responsible defines the time needed to manufacture one unit of the product – in this case, 0.25 hour.

In the Tsu (Set-Up Time of Operation) field, the person responsible defines time for preparation and cleaning of the machine before beginning work operations – in this case, 0.12 hour.

HINT

You can find more information about times in manufacturing and scheduling the production, HERE.

5. Linking materials to the work operation

Clicking the arrow on the left border of an individual operation line opens a table of Materials on which the selected work operation is carried out. It is therefore important the person responsible enters lines thoughtfully, as an individual work operation includes all materials entered between this and the previous operation.

HINT

Subsequent changes to the order of lines can be made with the Rearrange Lines tool in Wizards.
