Creating a Basic Bill of Materials

Before starting the creation of a new Basic Bill of Materials, the person responsible must have a detailed production plan for the new product, listing all the quantities of materials used, work operations, resources, etc.

CASE SUMMARY

The person responsible for manufacturing, Marc Manufacture, wants to create a Basic Bill of Materials for the new LARA3 tent. First, Marc creates a new item in the Items Register, then enters materials and work operations onto a Basic Bill of Materials according to a preprepared plan. Next, Marc adds alternatives to the BOM and attaches a document with instructions for use. Marc saves the created BOM to history, where it is always available to look into, or change later on. Lastly, Marc runs Cost Estimation to check manufacturing costs of the new product.

The process of creating a Basic Bill of Materials in PANTHEON is best illustrated by the diagram below.

Process Description:

  1. Item Preparation – before creating the Basic Bill of Materials, the item must be properly prepared in the Items Register.
  2. Creating a Bill of Materials – creating a new Basic Bill of Materials starts with entering Materials and Work Operations according to a predefined plan.
  3. Creating Alternatives – using the Add an Alternative, alternatives can be added to the Basic Bill of Materials.
  4. Adding to History – the BOMs are stored in a history where they are always available for inspection.
  5. Document Loading – documentation used throughout the manufacturing process is attached to the BOM.
  6. Cost Estimation – manufacturing costs of products and half-finished products manufactured in the process can be calculated by selecting various criteria.
