Entering a service item

In addition to the items for which you keep stock, you can create items for services in the Items register. Services are by definition intangible, as they are not produced, transported or stored for future use.  The following is an example of entering an item for performing a service.

CASE SUMMARY

Tecta has expanded the range of services it offers to customers. Head of Logistics and Assembly, Aston Assembler, adds a new service, tent assembly, to the Items register. To add the service, he performs the following steps in PANTHEON:

  1. Creating a new record for the item
  2. Defining general information about the item
  3. Defining sales pricing for the item

1. Creating a new record for the item

The person responsible adds a new item as shown in the image below. The item is added in the Items register, which can be accessed via the menu Settings | Items | Items.

The detailed procedure is described in the chapter Entering an item from a purchase.

2. Defining general information about the item

He then enters data for the service item S_TENT_ASSEMBLY. It is important to define the appropriate category, item type, tax rate and unit of measure. These settings will later allow the correct preparation of reports, accounts and bookings.

For this purpose, he fills in the details in the General panel, as you can see from the image below.

The entry steps are described in detail inin the chapter Entering an item from a purchase.

Hint
  1. If you define an S-type code (700-Service) in the  Item type field, you are defining in the program that no stock is kept for the item. For more information on item types, see Item types.
  2. For items with the type service, select the code for the services in the VAT field. For more information on tax types, see the chapter Tax types.

3. Defining sale pricing for the item

The person responsible then enters data in the Costing/Pricing panel as shown in the image below.

The sales pricing will define how the sales prices or the price classes are calculated.

The detailed procedure is described in the chapter Entering an item from a purchase.

HINT

Tecta has a production plant. It carries out various work operations. For this purpose, the person responsible will create items for services in production in the same way –  work operations.
