Entering a manufacturing item

In manufacturing, several individual items are combined into one common item (product, semi-finished product) through a process of work operations (services). The following is an example of creating an item for a product from simple manufacturing in PANTHEON (SE license).

WARNING

Assigning identifiers to manufacturing items for a large manufacturing (ME, MF license) is performed in other program windows. Read more in the chapter Manufacturing.

CASE SUMMARY

Tecta has expanded its tent manufacturing. For this purpose, Head of Manufacturing Marc Manufacture will create a new ID for the finished product. He will create the INDIAN4 tent item and assign all the necessary settings to the item so that it can be used both in manufacturing and in all other company departments. He will complete the entry process by performing the following steps in PANTHEON:

  1. Creating a new record for the manufacturing item
  2. Defining general information for the manufacturing item
  3. Defining sale pricing for the manufacturing item
  4. Defining technological descriptions and images for the manufacturing item
  5. Defining contract sale prices for the manufacturing item
  6. Defining bill of materials (BOM) for the manufacturing item
  7. Defining additional information for the manufacturing item
  8. Adding documents to the manufacturing item documentation

1. Creating a new record for the manufacturing item

The person responsible creates a new item in the Items register, which can be accessed via the menu Settings | Items | Items. The detailed process of entering the header data is described in the chapter Entering an item from a purchase The final result of the entry process is shown in the image below.

2. Defining general information for the manufacturing item

After creating the item ID, the person responsible enters the data for the manufacturing item in the panel General panel, as shown in the image below. This is done to define the category, warranty period, serial number tracking, accounting data and dimensions and units of measurement. The detailed entry steps are described in the chapter Entering an item from a purchase.

WARNING

By selecting the item type P (300 – own product) in the field Item type field, you enable additional settings to be entered in the BOM panel, For more information on item types, see the chapter Item Type Examples

3. Defining sale pricing for the manufacturing item

The person responsible wants to set the sale price levels. This is done by entering the following data in the panel Costing/pricing: the retail price, the tax rate, and various multiple sales price levels, as shown in the image below. More detailed entry steps are described in the Entering an item from a purchase.

4. Defining technological descriptions and images for the manufacturing item

In PANTHEON, an image and a more detailed description can be assigned to each item. To do this, the person responsible will enter the details for the INDIAN4 manufacturing item in the panels Technological description and Image, as shown below.

4.1 Technological description

To ensure that more detailed information about the tent is also visible on orders and invoices, the person responsible enters the information in the panel Technological description, as shown in the image below. More detailed entry steps are described in the chapter Entering an item from a purchase.

4.3 Image

To make it easier to recognize the new manufacturing item, the person responsible adds an image. The detailed steps of the entry are described in the chapter Entering an item from a purchase.

5. Defining contract sale prices for the manufacturing item

Tecta entered into an agreement with the customer Bergfreunde Web Shop, GmbH on special sale prices. For this purpose, the person responsible enters the agreed price information in the panel Contract Prices . The entry that is shown in the image below is made using the procedure described in the chapter Entering an item from a purchase.

6. Defining bill of materials (BOM) for the manufacturing item

Own product consists of several different types of items (material, work operation). For this purpose, the person responsible prepares a BOM, which lists all the necessary items that are required to make the product. This is done in the panel BOM of the Items register by performing the following steps:

  • The person responsible clicks the button Insert record, as shown in the image below (number 1).

  • Then, the appropriate item that will be part of the BOM (number 2) is selected from the drop-down list in the field Item.
  • In the field Quantity, the quantity for the selected item that will be needed in the process of manufacturing the own product is entered (see the image below, number 3).
  • Saving the entry is done by clicking on the button Post edit, which changes the colour from green to grey (number 4 in the image below).

The person responsible repeats the process until all the necessary BOM items have been added, as shown in the image below.

WARNING

For large manufacturing (MF and ME licences), the BOM is prepared in another program window. For more details, see the example in the chapter BOM.

7. Defining additional information for the manufacturing item

Tents are divided into different types depending on their size and season of use. Tecta wants to keep a transparent record of this information. For this purpose, the person responsible determines the required characteristics for the tent.

This is done by selecting the Number of persons and Season from the drop-down list in the panel Custom fields of the Items register.

WARNING

Before the person responsible could select a specific ID in the field Custom fields, it was necessary to first activate the Custom and prepare a register for the number of persons and seasons. This was done by the Datalab Support. You can find out more user support here.

HINT

You can activate any of the fields in the Administration Panel, which can be accessed by opening the menu Settings | Program | Administration Panel. In the panel, select Settings | Items | Custom fields. For more detailed instructions, see the chapter Custom fields.

8. Adding documents to the manufacturing item documentation

The tent manufactured by Tecta is certified for quality. For this purpose, the person responsible attaches a document in the panel Documentation, as shown in the image below. The procedure to be carried out by the person responsible in the panel Documentation is described in the chapter Entering an item from a purchase.
