Using Compound Serial Numbers: An Example

Assigning Compound Serial - One Piece (Type E)

010379.gif010381.gif010411.gif010382.gif010383.gif

Let us for example take a look at using serial numbers for specific parts of a compound item. The meaning and role of serial numbers do not change here. It just enables you a different kind of entering and control by using of specific parts of serial number.

Let us assume that you want to generate serial number in the following way: first 3 digits should contain the code representing item colour and the next digit represent the category ID from the Items register and the next 10 digits contain a specific ID of the item which is recorded in the database in the custom alphanumeric field B. If the field is empty, enter ID manually.

Use the same settings as described in the example in the topic Serial Number Templates.

1. Receiving

When receiving items with serial numbers structured in this way, a window appears where individual parts of the serial number are displayed in columns as determined in Serial Number Templates:

Serial numbers can be:

  • entered manually,
  • selected from table if the SQL Select statement is set,
  • offered by default for use with the individual part of serial number if the SQL statement for default values is set,

Although individual columns can be set for entry of serial number, it is recorded in the database as one single record.

2. Issue

When having entered quantity, a window for viewing and selecting serial numbers of issue is opened. On the right side you can see available serial numbers and on the left serial numbers that you linked with the issue document.

Serial number for issuing can be selected by doubleclicking the available one: by doing this you link it with document of issue. If you enter the same batch number more than once, the issued quantities are added up in the right column.

After having entered the quantity of issue, you are offered a list of available serial numbers. On the right you can see available serial numbers and on the left serial numbers that you linked with issue.

Unlike unique serial numbers where the quantity of specific serial numbers equals 1, here you have to enter quantity of all batch numbers (batch, lot).

When you exceed the required amount of serial numbers, this message will appear:

You can also enter serial numbers in the field that can be found on the right. If the given serial number is not available, the following error is returned:

In the Items register you can at any time view and check the availability of serial numbers.

000001.gif You can delete individual records in the window for entering serial numbers by using the following 005059.gif 005054.gif key combination.
000001.gif Having selected autoassigning in the document type of issue, serial numbers get assigned automatically in the ascending order.
000001.gif For product variants you can use specific types of report. For detailed treatment see Product Variants.
