Creating a Plan

Using the Monthly Plan from Sales Orders, you can plan the work process in manufacturing for a specific month or other time period (not shorter than a week). Doing this, you check whether the company has the capacities for manufacturing the ordered products and ensure your products are ready to be delivered to customers on time. The plan is also a basis for checking the material financial report that can be created with Scheduling.

This chapter presents how to create a monthly plan from sales orders in PANTHEON.

CASE SUMMARY:

Marc Manufacture wants to plan manufacturing for June. The basis for the plan are confirmed sales orders created by the Sales department. Using the selection tool, Marc adds these orders to the plan and calculates the starting date for lines. Then, Marc creates a Plan BOM for item LARA3 and changes a line in the BOM. This is done as follows:

  1. Opening a New Plan
  2. Entering the Plan Head
  3. Creating Plan Lines
  4. Calculating Start Times
  5. Creating a Plan BOM
  6. Changing Plan BOM Line

1. Opening a New Plan

The person responsible wants to create a new plan for June 2022. To open the Monthly Plan form, the person responsible selects Manufacturing | Plans | Monthly Plans – Orders.

2. Entering the Plan Head

An empty form opens. At the top of the page, the person responsible enters the plan name (Plan June 2022) into the empty space next to the Number field. The Date field is automatically populated with the date of opening the document, but can be changed as needed.

Into the Period From/To field, the person responsible enters the time period for the plan, in this case from 1.06.2022 to 30.06.2022. The plan Status is Open by default until the plan is not finished. In the Clerk field, the user who created the plan is automatically defined as the Clerk, but this can be changed if needed. The person responsible leaves other fields empty, as the plan is created from orders of multiple different customers.

When the plan is saved, the plan number is created automatically.

3. Creating Plan Lines

By clicking the (Wizard) icon and selecting Create Plan Lines from Orders from the drop-down menu, the person responsible opens the Create Plan Lines tool. Using different criteria, the person responsible finds desired orders and uploads them into the plan.

In the Criteria section, the person responsible selects the Order Date From/To: 1.05.2022 to 31.05.2022. By selecting the Not Transferred to Plan checkbox in the Show Orders section, the person responsible ensures that the program does not show orders that are already included in the plan.

In the Orders Doc. Types and Order Statuses sections, the person responsible can select additional criteria for searching orders. The person responsible wants to see only Sales Orders and orders that are confirmed or already have a Picking List.

The orders are displayed after clicking the Refresh button.

Among the displayed orders, the person responsible checks the suitability of data and selects all orders by ticking the checkboxes in the Select column. Lines are transferred to the plan after clicking the Transfer button.

After transferring, the lines from the selected orders are visible in the monthly plan.

4. Calculating Start Times

The end date, or the production deadline for a specific line, is visible in the End Time column on each individual line. The end date data is transferred to the line from the linked Sales Order, from the Dispatch by data.

To calculate start times on plan lines, the person responsible right-clicks the desired line and selects Calculate Start Times from the list. After confirming, the calculation is made and calculated dates are visible on lines in the Start Time column.

HINT

If start times are already known, you can calculate end times in a similar way by selecting the Calculate End Times feature.

Warning

The method of calculating times in planning depends on settings in the Administration Panel and the selected Scheduling Method set on the active Alternate in the Basic BOM of a specific plan line. According to the selected scheduling method, the program defines the data that will be considered in the scheduling calculation in the plan.

5. Creating a Plan BOM

The production planning tool in PANTHEON helps create a Plan BOM. This allows you to edit BOMs at this stage as needed. After transferring the plan to Work Orders, the Plan BOM is transferred as well. If the BOM is not specifically defined, lines from the Basic BOM are transferred to Work Orders.

The person responsible wants to change a line in the BOM for item LARA3 – the semi-finished product mosquito net. The person responsible selects the Plan BOM tab and selects the plan line 1, item LARA3. The Plan BOM is empty by default.

The person responsible created the BOM by clicking the (Wizard) and selecting the option from the drop-down menu. The copying tool opens. The person responsible selects the Type of the original BOM: Basic BOM. In the Item field, the person responsible selects LARA3 and in the Alternate field, selects the alternate 1.

Data about the target BOM are filled in automatically from the plan. In the Mode field, the person responsible selects Overwrite BOM.

Clicking the Copy button and confirming, the BOM is copied. The program shows a message and the BOM copying is finished. Now, the BOM is visible in the plan.

6. Changing Plan BOM Line

Next, the person responsible wants to change a material lines in the BOM. On the Plan BOM tab, the person responsible opens the Material window and selects line 20, item LARA3_NET. In Line details in the Item field, the person responsible changes the item to the desired LARA3_NET_G. The changes are saved after clicking the green tick in the toolbar.

When the Plan BOM is created, the checkbox Active in the Regulation column on the Plan Lines tab is checked, meaning a Plan BOM exists for the selected item.

HINT

After creating the plan, lines can be transferred directly to production to Work Orders or you can use the manufacturing scheduling tool first.
