Non-speaking codes

Non-speaking codes are those from which no information about the ident (name, type of ident, etc.) can be inferred. There are several types of non-speaking ciphers. Here we present:

Table of contents

  1. Serial number
  2. EAN code

1. Serial number

The simplest type of non-speaking codes is the ident sequence number. The ciphers are opened and numbered in the order in which the idents are entered into the program.

CASE SUMMARY

The responsible person adds the idents to the programme one by one in the ident codebook. Each successive ident has a higher number than the previous one.

4

5

WARNING

The code information does not tell anything about the ident or its classification.

2. EAN code

The EAN13 code has established itself on the European market for the marking of items and products as a code that precisely identifies the country and company of origin. Usually the first three digits define the country or national organisation that issued the number, the next four, five or six digits tell the manufacturer of the item the remaining five, four or three digits are assigned to items by the manufacturer, the 13th digit is a check digit, which is calculated by a special algorithm on the basis of the preceding twelve digits and verifies the accuracy of the overall product number.

HINT

With EAN classification, you can quickly track and use idents. The easiest way to open an EAN code is to read the code with a barcode scanner and then enter the missing data into the codebook.

CASE SUMMARY

The person in charge of the shop adds new idents to the ident codebook. The codes are determined by scanning the EAN barcode and adding other information about the ident.
