OTOS Explained

Imagine the following scenario.

A company has three stores. The main office wants to send customer and product data to all stores and receive orders and accounts receivable from them, in order to gather everything in a central database.

The company has to create a dedicated e-mail account (e.g. transfer@company.com) which will be used for all data transfers between the main office and the stores. Here, the main office is the Master and the stores are Slaves. Each store has its onw profile which contains the following information:

  • type of transfer,
  • which data to transfer (master data and document types),
  • time and date of last transfer from the Master (MEDT - Master Export, Date & Time) or Slave (SEDT - Slave Export, Date & Time).

The following chart illustrates the described layout (the numbers on the arrows denote the transfer sequence).
