Import reproduction cycles from Excel

Import of reproduction cycles

Pantheon enables import of reproduction cycles. Form to import data is accessible on animal record on button import / export data  where you select Import Reproduction Cycles. Form to import reproduction cycle will appear.

Before import you first have to select appropriate template. Each category already contains system template in database and you can always use this template. Through template designer in Administration Panel you select appropriate fields for import. Reproduction import currenty support selected fields:

Animal ID ID of animal, for which we import data. ID has to be written the same way as in database. Each line in Excel requires ID of animal even if whole file is for same animal.
Date start Date of insemination.
Father SID Sire semen ID.
Result Type of final event of reproduction cycle. Information has to be recorded with Pantheon Farming internal code. Codes are:
  • CL - Birth
  • AB - Abortus
  • US - Unsuccessful insemination
Insemination type Type of insemination. Insemination type has to be recorded with Pantheon Farming internal code. Codes are:
  • AS - Insemination
  • AR - Repeated Insemination
  • NS - Natural Insemination
  • NR - Repeated Natural Insemination
Pregnant Information if animal is pregnant or not. Information has to be recorded with Pantheon Farming internal code. Codes are:
  • T - True (pregnant)
  • F - False (not pregnant)
Event date Date of reproduction cycle end (birth, abortus, unsuccessful insemination).
Father name Name of sire.
Father ID ID of sire.
Pregnany check Date of pregnancy check.
Live calf count Number of live born calves.
Dead calf count Number of stillborn calves.
Dry-off date Date of dry-off
Weaning Date Date of weaning (applicable only for pigs).
No. of weaned animals Number of weaned piglets (applicable only for pigs).

Once you select appropriate template you can add file(s) to form in different ways: (1) by clicking on button Import from file and selecting desired file(s) or (2) with drag and drop, where you drag desired file directly to import form. If you are importing multiple files, you can select or drag and drop multiple files at once. You can also drag and drop whole folder to import form and all appropriate files will be imported.

If you have already selected one file and select another file, an IRIS message will appear that enables you to add file to existing data or overwrite exisiting data with new file.

If you want to review data that codes are applicable and animals exisit in the database, you can use function Check data. This function will review whole dataset and it is only applicable for large datasets. If there are less than 1.000 records in import form, Pantheon will automatically check data at the beggining and after each change. For datasets between 1.000 and 5.000 Pantheon will only check data at the beggining and not for each change. If dataset is larger than 5.000 data check has to be done automatically.

If you would like to export created template to fill file with data, you can use button Export template   Software will export Excel file with the same structure as template. It will also save it with the same name as the name of template. Template file will be saved in desired location ant Excel will form two tabs:

  • Data, which is blank, contains only column names and it is used to fill it with data.
  • Help, which contains list and description of fields that can be imported in selected category (for reprodution same list as it is above in the table). This could be used as help which data can be imported or as description for which data has to be inserted in specific fields (e.g. codes for insemination type, result, etc.).

Once you click save an import seleted information, software will enable you to either close import window or finish import, leave import window open and import additional file.

Once you imported file, ID of file is stored in the database which prevents you to import the same file again.
