Simplified Material Movements

Simplified Material Movements

It is often the case that there are simply too many material and goods movements , or that supporting them in a business information system would break the business apart too much.

Typical examples are, for example, a transfer to consignment or a sale from consignment:

To support this material and goods movement, six types of documents would need to be opened:

Doc. Type Name Issuing warehouse Receiving warehouse
2100 Transfer retail -> Wholesale Main warehouse Consignment 1
2200 Transfer retail --> Work orders Consignment 1 Main warehouse
2300 Transfer Work orders --> retail Main warehouse Consignment 2
2400 Transfer Wholesale --> Work orders Consignment 2 Main warehouse
3100 Retail sale Consignment 1
3200 POS retail Consignment 2

In these cases, we resort to the simplification of material and goods movements:

In this case, only three other document types are open:

Doc. Type Name Issuing warehouse Receiving warehouse
2100 Transfer retail -> Wholesale Main warehouse
2200 Transfer retail --> Work orders   Main warehouse
3200 POS retail

We can see that there are no consignment warehouses defined for transfers, and that there is no issuing warehouse defined for sales.

A blank field means that the warehouse can be entered when creating the document.

We will therefore select the appropriate consignment warehouse at the time of the transfer, as well as at the time of the sale from consignment. In the same way, we can simplify the sale or purchase itself.

000001.gif Despite the advantages of defining document types in this way, caution is needed, as we may inadvertently transfer or sell items from the wrong warehouse. As a rule of thumb, we only define events in this way when there are too many for normal work.
