Dental examination

Dentistry is a specialized field in veterinary medicine that allows for a detailed examination of the teeth and, based on the clinical picture, treatment and procedures in the oral cavity or on the teeth.

In this chapter, we will present an example of entering data about the dental examination. The fields are located on the treatment document in the tab Dental examination. We access the tab in the menu Veterinary | Treatment, tab Treatment and sub-tab Examination.

TIP

For more detailed information about the program forms, please read in The Guide to PANTHEON VET, in the chapter XX.

WARNING

The tab Dental examination is displayed only for the treatment of dogs and cats; it is not available for other types of animals.

CASE DESCRIPTION

Owner Aleksander Boston brought his dog Max to the veterinary clinic. The dog injured a tooth while playing, and it hurts significantly when touched. If a dental procedure is necessary, the owner wants the dental calculus to be removed at the same time. The veterinary dentist examines the dog and performs the procedure to remove the damaged tooth and the dental calculus simultaneously. The details of the procedure are recorded in the treatment. This is done with the following steps:

  1. Opening the treatment document and adding the animal to the treatment
  2. Entering data in the Dental examination tab
  3. Printing the examination

1. Opening the treatment document and adding the animal to the treatment

The responsible person creates the treatment document, where they select the owner and the animal that is in the treatment process.

The detailed procedure is described in the chapter Entering treatment (general).

In our case, the responsible person creates Treatment: 23-CLI2-0000001.

2. Entering data in the Dental examination tab

The responsible person has performed the dental examination and procedure on the dog's teeth. They now want to enter the data in the tab Dental examination.

  • In the field Anamnesis , the responsible person enters the text: Broken tooth. They also want the removal of dental calculus at the same time.
  • In the toggle field Test sheet for periodontal diseases , they mark in our case: 1.
  • The responsible person continues in the toggle field Index of dental calculus, where they mark: 1.
  • Check the optional field Ultrasonic removal of dental plaque.
  • The responsible person checks the optional field Simple extraction.

In the graphical representation of the teeth, they enter data about the examination and the condition of each individual tooth.

  • The responsible person in the fields 104 (C)204 (C), 405 (P1) and 305 (P1) selects from the dropdown list in our case: CA.
  • In the field 205 (P1) , they select from the dropdown list: DC/D.
  • They save the data by clicking the button Save.
TIP

Prepare the codebook of dental diagnoses in advance. It is described in detail in the chapter Codebook of dental diagnoses.

3. Printing the examination

The responsible person wants to print the report of the completed dental examination so that it can be attached to the owner.

  • They open the print preview by clicking the button  (Print examination).
  • The printout opens: 6X3 - Dental report.
  • They click the button  (Print), to print it on paper.
