Adding Users to Server Level (AddUser_PAX)

These instructions present how to transfer users from database to the server, using the program package AddUser_PAX.

The operation must be performed when first installing PANTHEON or when migrating the database from one server to another.

Table of contents

  1. Downloading the AddUser_PAX program package
  2. Using the AddUser_PAX program package

1. Downloading the AddUser_PAX program package

From the website http://ftp.datalab.si/Programi/DL-utils/AddUsers_PAX.zip, the user downloads the AddUser_PAX.zip tool to the hard drive.

Using a suitable archiver, the user decompresses the tool and runs the AddUser_PAX.exe program with full administrator permissions.

A Windows protect your PC window opens. The user selects More info and Run anyway.

The user clicks the Yes button.

2. Using the AddUser_PAX program package

Using the AddUser_PAX program, the user transfers the users from the database to the server.

The following fields and buttons are found in the program window.

Server name Enter the server name (e.g. .\DATALAB).
Database Name The system database name (e.g. BA_MF).
User The SA (sysadmin) user defined when installing the SQL server (mixed mode).
Password Password for the SA (sysadmin) user.
User password Password for user – to log into PANTHEON.
Fill the table with users from the database.
Transfer users from the database to the server level.
Close the AddUser_PAX program.

In the AddUser_PAX program, the user first enters all parameters on the left side of the window, these are:

  • server name,
  • database name,
  • SA (sysadmin) user, password
  • password that is going to be set for users when transferring users from the database level to the server level.
WARNING

All fields must be filled out. The user password must be at least 8 characters long.

After entering all parameters, the user clicks the Fill users from User Table button and fills the table with users.

According to the server level, you can also define certain roles when adding users from the database to the server level:

WARNING
  1. When transferring the users from the database for the first time, it is recommended that the password set for the AD (administrator) user is strong and that you mark all the roles listed above. This way, the AD user receives full authorizations to PANTHEON and SQL server. The first login should be made using the AD user with all the roles listed above.
  2. You can add server roles to other users optionally. To run PANTHEON for other users, who are not AD, it is enough for the users to have the db_owner role marked.

From the database (Database name), the program reads the entered users.

Clicking the Create users button also transfers the users to the server (SQL) level.

If the user transfer is successful, the program shows the message_ Operation completed!

You can make sure the AddUser_PAX program has successfully created users on the server level via the Management Studio, under the Security | Users section.
