How to record laid eggs?
Collecting and packing of laid eggs
Laying hens functionality enables recording of different events. We can add or remove animals on groups, record treatments, feeding, other events, eggs collecting and packing. Last two functionalities are described below.
Before we start recording collected or packed eggs, we need to prepare few settings:
1. Add groups for laying hens on holding.
2. Prepare settings for eggs and egg packing.
3. Add animals to groups.
4a. Insert egg collecting.
4b. Insert egg packing.
Add groups for laying hens on holding
Groups are added the same way as for other animal type. We first create holding and add group to holding. To use this group in laying setting, described fields have to be inserted:
- Holding country: important, as egg serial number is automatically created from this information.
- Type of animal = Poultry.
- Feedlots = True (checked).
- Farming method: has to be selected as egg serial number is automatically created from this information.
- Distinguishing number: important, as egg serial number is automatically created from this information,
Group with such setting can be used in laying hens module.
Prepare settings for eggs and egg packing
To be able to record collected eggs and record eggs packing, we need to define individual eggs and egg packs. First we need to insert individual egg items. The only important setting here is, that we eggs serial number tracking as K - One S/N is multiple piece. After that we need to define egg groups in administration panel. In this section we define:
- Type of egg collection in egg collecting. If we select sorted, we will be able to insert sorted eggs (marked red), otherwise just unsorted (marked blue).

- Default warehouse, where collected and packed eggs will be stored.
- Item type that we will use for egg packs. This is used to filter egg packs in packing module.
- Receiving documents as default document to add eggs on stock
- Shrinkage document as default document to record egg shrinkage.
- Eggs best before as time (in days) of eggs usability.
- Items for each individual egg category.
Once this was done, we need to insert items for egg packs. For this items important settings are:
- Item type same as added to items above which has to be selected as type C - compound goods.
- Defined specification (or BOM). This section defines, how egg pack is composed. In case shown below, egg pack is composed from 10 eggs type L and one egg package for 10 eggs.

Serial number tracking is optional in this case.
After that we need to add selected item type fo egg packs to production. We do this on document types movements, where we define what type of document will be created on pack receiving. In case shown below we will create document 610 on receiving od packed eggs and these packs will be automatically added on Warehouse WO.

The last setting that we need to prepare is that serial number will be issued automatically from warehouse. This is done on document type for work order. By default this document is 640.
Add animals to groups
Once we prepared settings, we can add animals to groups. We can add multiple animals to one group and add more groups to one holding.
On egg collecting and packing user can record data in two ways:
- Package eggs which will record the whole process: collecting sorted eggs, creating serial number of eggs, packing eggs to defined packs.
- Collect eggs which will record only eggs collected to stock (sorted or unsorted). Packing has to be inserted manually later.
Eggs collecting
In eggs collecting section eggs are inserted based on setting in administration panel. If we selected sorted eggs, types for sorted eggs will be shown. If he selected unsorted, only one egg type will be shown and added to stock.
In modal window we insert number of laid eggs, shrinkage and average weight of egg. Difference between laid eggs and shrinkage is added to stock. Warehouse for eggs, laying date and animal group are defined in header of window. It is set automatically, but can be manually changed.
Entry creates new document for each collecting. Each egg type creates position on document. For each egg type serial number is also created as: farming method + country of holding + distinguishing number.
Package eggs
The process of package eggs covers the whole process from laid eggs to egg packs. It combines adding sorted to stock, packing of eggs through work order and adding packed eggs to stock.
In the lower panel defined packs are shown. User can insert produced packs or total egg quantity. Packed eggs quantity iws calculated automatically. Difference between total eggs qty and packed eggs qty can be either added to stock or recorded as shrinkage. The last column contains information about average weight of individual egg. Warehouse for eggs, laying date, packing date and animal group are defined in header of window. It is set automatically, but can be manually changed.
