Creating a new resource

The machines used in manufacturing are entered in the register of resources so that we can monitor the wear, plan the production and monitor various manufacturing schedule.

In the Tecta company, a new cutting machine was bought for manufacturing needs. In the following example, it is shown how one can add a new Resource in the PANTHEON program and equip it with data that allows us to properly monitor the costs and time associated with the resource.

CASE SUMMARY:

Marc Manufacturing wants to add a new cutting machine to the resources that are used in manufacturing, equip it with the necessary time and cost data, and connect it to the fixed asset, jobs and workers. Next, the person responsible wants to attach the related documentation to the resource. This is done as follows:

  1. Creating a new record
  2. Entering general information
  3. Connection to work devices
  4. Adding job positions
  5. Adding employees
  6. Importing documentation

1.Creating a new record

To create a new Resource the person responsible selects Settings | Manufacturing | Resources | Resources in the menu bar and by selecting the button (Insert record) an empty form opens.

In the Resource field, the person responsible enters the resource code CU1001 and the name Cutting machine 1001. It is a cutting machine, so in the Resource Type in the field Type, the person responsible selects Cut from the register of resource types. The person responsible then checks the Work checkbox.

In the Parent  field, the person responsible selects Tecta, as it is a working machine within Tecta manufacturing.

The person responsible selects the green tick to save the selection. The resource is now visible in the resource tree structure.

2. Entering general information

In the General tab, the person responsible connects the resource with data from the Calendar register and the Regulations register.

In the Calendar field, the person responsible selects 0MF – Manufacturing calendar. In the Regulation field, the person responsible selects PE – Protective equipment during operation.

The time capacity is automatically filled in from the selected calendar. By checking the Scheduling checkbox, it is specified that the resource is considered in the process of scheduling the execution of the work process.

The person responsible specifies 8 hours per shift in the Hrs/shift field and two shifts in the Shifts field. In the Employees field, the person responsible specifies the number of employees working on the machine.

Finally, the person responsible determines the resource costs, namely, Set-Up Costs which are the costs associated with the preparation and completion time of the determined work operations and Production Costs which are costs associated with the manufacturing at the time of a certain work operation.

WARNING

Entering data on resource costs is important, as this data can be used in the pre-calculation of production costs and in the post-calculation of the actual costs of work orders.

Read more about resource data in the chapter General.

3. Connection to Equipment

In the tab Equipmentby clicking on the drop-down list under the window Equipment, the person responsible chooses Cutting machine 1001 from the fixed assets.

Clicking away from the row saves the associated fixed asset. Thus, the resource is connected to the fixed asset.

HINT

A resource can also have several related fixed assets, if, for example, the machine is equipped with additional tools or it is a line.

4. Adding job positions

The tab Positions is intended to connect job positions with a work resource.

The person responsible clicks on the tab Positions and then on the empty field Position.

The person responsible clicks on the magnifying-glass icon and a list of job positions appears on the screen. Next, the person responsible selects the position Head of Manufacturing from the list.

In the same way, the person responsible adds the position Manufacturing Employee.

At the bottom, when selecting a position, all employees assigned to this position are displayed.

5. Adding employees

The tab Employees is intended to connect employees with work resources.

The person responsible clicks on the Employees tab. The list already shows employees who are associated with the position specified in the Positions tab. These positions in the Employees tab cannot be changed.

To add a new employee, the person responsible uses the "down" arrow key to move to an empty position. The person responsible clicks on the Employee field and then on the magnifying-glass icon.

A list of employees opens, from which the person responsible chooses Adam Apprentice.

6. Importing documentation

In the tab Documentation, the person responsible imports an image of the cutting machine so that anyone with insight can check if they are working with the correct machine when working with the resource during the production process in PANTHEON.

This is done by selecting the Add Document button in the Files subtab. The scan tool opens and the person responsible chooses the (Import Document) button. Next, the person responsible selects the desired image file from the local drive and opens it. When the file appears in the Scan tool, the person responsible selects the Confirm button to upload it to the program.

The file is hereby attached to the resource and is available for review.

HINT

You can attach instructions for working with the resource, instructions for maintenance, cleaning, repair, warranty documentation, etc. to the files.

Warning

In the resource register, you can also find the tab User-defined fields which can be set as desired in the administration panel, and the tab Wear where you can monitor resource usage or products and operations performed on the resource.

You can read more about these tabs in the chapters User-defined fields and Wear.
