OLAP Analyses

OLAP analyses module is used for detailed data analysis. It operates as a pivot table in a similar way than Ad-Hoc analyses. Compared to Ad-Hoc analyses it enables some additional and complex features such as structured dimensions and drill through.

OLAP analyses require processing environment setup as well as workstation setup to be able to process and analyze cubes.

1. Form buttons

Top of the OLAP form contains different buttons to set the looks and data on the form

Adds decimal numbers to results of OLAP analysis.
Removes decimal numbers to results of OLAP analysis.
Resets all the settings on the form and returns it to the start state.
Exports data as the are seen on the form directly to Excel (without a chart).
Shows graph besides the result grid (on the right side).
Shows graph below the result grid.
Removes graph from the grid.

2. Dimensions

General

Dimensions are listed above the analysis grid. They can be added to analysis grid od drag and drop either as row or column. If you want to remove dimension from grid, you can return it with the same drag and drop to dimensions list.

Once dimension is on the grid, an arrow will appear on the dimension. This arrow determines sort of dimension data (ascending or descending).

Click on the dimension will change this sort of data in grid.

Filter

Dimensions ca also be filtered by selected value. If filter is selected, all the data in the grid will be filtered accordingly. When you hoover with the mouse over the dimension, funnel sign will appear on the dimension (in gray color).

Click on this funnel sign will open filter options.

First option is multiselect of values from the dimensions. If you want to select just one value, you can change selection options by clicking on radio button. Sort button will reorder dimension list. Click on OK button will save the filter selection and funnel icon will be permanently visible on the dimension (in blue color).

Structured dimensions

Some dimensions are structured. Structured dimensions are marked with a sign in front of the name.

When such dimension is on the grid, click on this sign will open lower layer of dimension.

If you use structured dimensions in the row grid, you can open individual dimension value.

You can also remove individual layer of dimension. Right click on individual layer will open a menu.

If you select an option Remove, selected layer will be removed while leaving all the others in the structure.

3. Measures

List on the left contains measures that can be added to analysis grid. Measures are added by selecting a checkbox in front of the measure.

Lower section of the measures list contains an option By. This gives you an option to analyze by 1st or 3rd person (e.g. by payers or consignees).

4. Preferences

Below the Measures panel you can find some additional settings of grid data.

Sort

This section enables you to sort data ascending or descending.

Limitation

This section enables you to limit data. Data can be limited on Top/Bottom 1, 2, 5, 10… or Top/Bottom 1%, 2%, 5%, 10%… Values in combobox are fixed.

Totals

This section enables you to add or remove totals in the grid.

Index

This section enables you to add indexes to grid. Index can only be used with column dimensions and only two values of dimension. If you add three values, index will show value -1. It is also sensitive to empty values in grid and it might return error if values are empty.

Click on the checkbox will turn Total column at the end to Index column. Index is calculated as

(First dimension value/Second dimension value) * 100)

If you turn the sort, index will be recalculated.

5. Data area

Data area will show results based on selected measures, dimensions and filtered values. All changes on the form are shown on the fly, no processing is needed. If data are changed, then OLAP cube processing is needed for changes to take effect.

Data area in OLAP grid enables also drill through. Double click on individual cell will open separate form with list of all documents that are calculated in double clicked value.

6. Chart

Chart is added to the grid with buttons on form. It will show only data, selected in grid. You have different selection options, e.g.:

  • One whole dimension.
  • One whole measure.
  • Multiple dimensions/measures selected with Shift+Click or Ctrl+Click.
  • Multiple cells with Shift+Click or Ctrl+Click.

7. Chart settings

Chart settings banner is visible, when chart is added to grid.

This settings banner enables you to change chart type, chart default colors, chart settings… This section is not a part of PANTHEON, but it is an external component and it is handled by this component.
