OLAP Security in PANTHEON

OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) enables multi-dimensional data analysis and is processed on a separate OLAP server, allowing for complex and large-scale calculations without impacting the main ERP database.

Below is an overview of the key security elements that protect your data and access to the system.

Table of contents

  1. Infrastructure and Environment
  2. Network and Connectivity
  3. Access and Authentication
  4. Data Management
  5. Updates and Maintenance
  6. Regulatory Compliance
  7. Audit and Access Logging
  8. Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

1. Infrastructure and Environment:

  • OLAP data is stored in separate OLAP databases.

  • Data is extracted from the PANTHEON database via ETL processes and loaded into OLAP cubes.

  • Each business area (e.g., Sales, HR, Production) is stored in separate cubes.

  • Data visualization is done inside PANTHEON using Hydra and MDX (Multidimensional Expressions).

  • On-premise or hosted infrastructure options are available, with secured access protocols.

2. Network and Connectivity:

  • Uses TCP ports 1433, 2382, 2383, and UDP 1434 for connections.

  • Connection strings control access, and connections should be made via trusted networks or VPNs.

3. Access and Authentication:

  • Domain or SQL-based authentication options.

  • Users must be database owners and have rights to create databases.

  • Access to cubes can be further restricted within the PANTHEON system.

4. Data Management:

  • Sensitive data (e.g., regional sales, departmental costs) can be stored.

  • Processing requires valid connection strings—access is denied if validation fails.

  • Access rights are separated at the cube level.

5. Updates and Maintenance:

  • Regular checks on user permissions and connection validity.

  • Timely updates of OLAP server software (e.g., SQL Server Analysis Services).

6. Regulatory Compliance:

  • GDPR and other data protection regulations apply.

  • Monitoring and restriction of access ensure compliance.

7. Audit and Logging:

  • SQL Server and PANTHEON tools can log OLAP access and usage.

  • Enables security audits and monitoring for misuse.

8. Recovery and Business Continuity:

  • OLAP data can be regenerated from ERP sources.

  • Regular backup of processed data and configuration is essential.

  • Quick restart of OLAP processes must be ensured after failure.
