Milk Production - Sheep

Milk production  (Sheep/Goat)

The Milk Production tab is used for recording an animal's milk production.

Clicking the Calving button will open a window where you can enter the last calving date. Enter the calving date, click OK, and the calving date will be saved.
Clicking the Dry-Off button will mark the animal's lactation period as finished.
Calving Date The calving date is filled in automatically when using the Calving button.
Lact. Days The number of lactation days is calculated based on the calving and dry-off dates.
Milk (kg), Std. Lact. The quantity of milk in the standard lactation period (305 days) is calculated based on the recording method.
Fat (%), Std. Lact. The fat content (percentage) in the standard lactation period (305 days) is calculated based on the recording method.
Protein (%), Std. Lact. The protein content (percentage) in the standard lactation period (305 days) is calculated based on the recording method.
Milk (kg), Full Lact. The quantity of milk in the full lactation period (from calving to dry-off) is calculated based on the recording method.
Fat (%), Full Lact. The fat content (percentage) in the full lactation period (from calving to dry-off) is calculated based on the recording method used in a lactation period.
Protein (%), Full Lact. The protein content (percentage) in the full lactation period (from calving to dry-off) is calculated based on the recording method used in a lactation period.
Dry-Off Date The dry-off date is filled in using the Dry-Off button.

All data is calculated automatically and cannot be changed.

For milking controls, we have 2 different milk controls: AT4 and Monthly. To determine, which calculation to use, user has to set this in Administration panel. All calculations in panel above are adapted according to selected milk control method.

Type of Method The milk reporting method.
Date of Method The date when the method was applied.
Days since Calving How many days have passed since calving is filled in when confirming the line. It is calculated automatically based on the calving date and method date.
Milk (kg) Enter the quantity of produced milk in the period.
Som. Cells (in 000) Enter the somatic cells count (in thousands) in the milk sample.
Fat (%) Enter the fat content (percentage) in the milk sample.
Protein (%) Enter the protein content (percentage) in the milk sample.
Lactose (%) Enter the lactose content (percentage) in the milk sample.
MUN (mg/dl) Enter the milk urea nitrogen concentration in the milk sample.

All these are entered manually. You can edit values until the lactation cycle is not completed. Values can no longer be edited after the lactation cycle is completed.

On the right, there are some lifetime statistics about the animal's milk production: lactation count, average lactation length, milk quantity, fat and protein content.
