It is an extremely useful and important register becuase you can set item type used in automatic posting (for more informtion see received and issued invoices, and material consumption). Set item type to filter data in overviews and reports.

Furthermore, you should note that different item types must be used when for example:

• creating a specification,
• stock tracking is not set, etc.

	To automatically post a type of product, create a new item type and make appropriate modifications in the Items register and Document Types settings.
	You must enter item type in the Accounts section in Items!

Create as many item types as is required. There are 10 predefined basic types and as mentioned above you can add new ones. Enter in the register:

ID	Enter a three-digit non-transparent alphanumeric ID.
Type	Set an item type. That is: P - Product (finished/semi-finished) - for products you manufacture. For detailed treatment see Manufacturing or Examples, e.g. simple manufacturing. B - Goods - For goods you purchase for the purpose of resale or use in own manufacturing. It is by far the most useful item type. C - Compound goods (for more information see Compound Goods - Type C). K - Consignment goods (for more information see Consignment Goods - Type K, Consignment Sales and Posting Issued Invoice for Consignment Goods ) A - Packaged goods - For receiving of components (for more information see Packaged Goods - Type A). M - Material - For material used in business process or in manufacturing. E - Packaging - here stock quantity is tracked (for more information see Packaging- Type E). S - Service - here stock is not tracked. U - Compound service (for more information see Processing Service Work Order - Type U) - here stock is not tracked. You can create specification for item types P, C, A and U.
Name	Enter name of item type that cannot exceed 100 characters.
	Click it to generate report:

	Make sure that you enter accounts correctly for every item type in document types in order to prevent errors from occurring in automatic posting!
	Sort data in the register by left-clicking any column title field (see Getting Started | PANTHEON Basics | Sorting Data).
