Addition of cattle

Cattle is classified as livestock for breeding and use. Most often, the veterinarian visits the animal owner in the field or at the location of the animals. During the first examination, the veterinarian first registers the animal in the program, where a unique code for the animal is created.

In this chapter, we will present an example of creating a new code for cattle (manually). The functionality is located in the menu  Veterinary | Code lists | Code list of owners and animalstab Cattle.

TIP

For more detailed information about the program forms, read in the PANTHEON VET Guide, in the chapter Cattle.

WARNING

In Slovenia, marking of cattle is mandatory. The national database VOLOS maintains all identification marks of animals and their movements. Users of PANTHEON VET can import data about cattle. Read more in the chapter VOLOS.

CASE DESCRIPTION

The veterinarian in the field performs regular vaccinations of cattle. At the location of the farm owned by Eva Angus, she will first describe the cattle for which she will also perform vaccinations. The process of creating a new animal code will be carried out with the following steps:

  1. Searching for the owner's code
  2. Entering data in the Basic Data tab
  3. Entering data in the Cattle tab
  4. Printing animal data

1. Searching for the owner's code

The responsible person in the field first checks or searches for the owner's code, where they can then create a new code for the animal. The detailed process of searching for the owner is described in the chapter Searching for the owner or animal in the code list.

WARNING

If the owner is not yet registered in the PANTHEON VET program, the responsible person first registers the owner, then the animal. For more detailed instructions, read in the chapter Adding a new owner.

2. Entering data in the Basic Data tab

The responsible person in the field registers the animal in the PANTHEON VET program. The detailed process of entering basic data about the animal in the tab Basic Data is described in the chapter Entering animals (general).

WARNING

Livestock in Slovenia is tied to the location of the setup, i.e., KMG-MID (or GMID). For this purpose, an additional field GMID for entering the required data automatically appears in the animal tabs.

  1. If the owner has only one GMID, which is registered in Owner's Code List, it is automatically filled in the GMID field in the tab Basic Data for the animal.
  2. If the owner has multiple GMID locations, in the tab Basic Data for the animal, select the appropriate one from the dropdown list in the GMID field.

TIP

For more detailed information about the program forms, read in the chapter GMID.

The image below shows the final entry of data about the cattle made by the responsible person in the field.

3. Entering data in the Cattle tab

After entering the basic data of the animal, the appropriate tab is created based on the selected type of animal. In our case, the tab Cattle.

TIP

Entering data in the tab Cattle is for informational purposes, and the data is not mandatory.

In our case, the responsible person selects from the dropdown list in the field Beef cow : 1-Beef cow.

In the field Color (o) selects from the dropdown list: Black.

4. Printing animal data

If the responsible person wants to check or print the data about the cattle for the owner, they do so in a manner that is detailed in the chapter Entering animals (general).

The image below shows the printout of data about the herd of cattle made by the responsible person in the field.
