Withdrawal period

Withdrawal period is the number of days from the last treatment of animals with a drug until the moment when the metabolic residues of the drug in the organs, milk, eggs are no longer harmful if used in human nutrition. Drugs have different withdrawal periods, which can vary depending on the type of animal or the tissue where the metabolic process of drug degradation occurs.

The information about the withdrawal period is provided by the veterinarian to the animal owner or printed on the treatment documents automatically if the withdrawal period is set in the Drug identification code of the drug. The data on the withdrawal period for a specific treatment can be found in the tab Service performed | Withdrawal period.

In this chapter, we have prepared a user case for you on how to set the withdrawal period information for each drug and review it during treatment, where the information appears.

CASE DESCRIPTION

Cattle were treated with antibiotics due to a bacterial infection. The withdrawal period for the antibiotic TRISULFON is not visible, as it has not yet been set. The responsible person enters the cadence in the code list and checks the data output during the treatment. This is done in the following steps:

  1. Setting data for the withdrawal period in the identification
  2. Setting the display of the Withdrawal period tab
  3. Reviewing withdrawal period data on the treatment document

1. Setting data for the withdrawal period in the identification

The responsible person first sets the withdrawal period information for the drug identification.

  • The data on the withdrawal period wants to be seen on the treatment documents, so they check the box Transfer withdrawal period to treatment document.

TIP

If the drug has only one withdrawal period information (no differences between types), enter the data in the fields Milk days, Month days, Organs days.

  • In our case, they want to separate the withdrawal period for different types of animals, so they click on the checkbox Different withdrawal periods.

The detailed procedure for entering data for the case of different withdrawal periods of the drug is described in the chapter Different withdrawal periods for the drug.

Warning

Identifications that are for drugs, with the subclassification antibiotics, must also have a properly defined classification. In our case, the primary and secondary classification is defined on the panel Basic data as shown in the image below.

Then, in the identification connection code list with the veterinary the Specialty, as shown in the image below.

2. Setting the display of the Withdrawal period tab

In the second step, they must check or set the switch, in which case the sub-tab Withdrawal period should be displayed on the tab Service performed, the document Treatment.

  • Open Animal types code list, where on the panel Animal type in the column Withdrawal period checks the switch for which types of animals they want the tab to be displayed.

Each type of animal can also have additional Animal categories.

  • On the panel Animal category check if there are checked switches in the column Withdrawal period for all categories where they want the display of the tab Withdrawal period.

3. Reviewing withdrawal period data on the treatment document

In the third step, they want to see the withdrawal period data on the treatment document, from which they also print the output for the owner of the treated animal.

TIP

A detailed description of creating the treatment document and entering all data about the treated animal, including identifications (drugs) that were used in the treatment process, can be read in the chapter Entering treatment.

After creating and entering data on the treatment document, the withdrawal period data is automatically filled in the tab Service performed | Withdrawal period.

In our case, we see that the identification Trisulfon was used in the treatment, for which a withdrawal period of 10 days is set for the tissues meat and organs, which is until May 22, 2023.

TIP

Example of withdrawal period data output on printout 6V6 - Outpatient diary.
