Let's use a company where the price level in the Costing/Pricing panel in the
Items register is different for retail locations as an example.
This example can only be supported if each location has its own database which
keeps Items register data separately. Documents can be sent from this database
to the central location for importation into the database of headquarters (let's
call it the central location).
1. Warehouses
Let's say, for example, that the central location only has one central
warehouse - let's call it the wholesale warehouse.
Each retail location has of course defined its own warehouse - let's call it
the retail warehouse.
2. Valuation and Posting Stock
Stock is valued by average price at all warehouses. At the retail warehouses,
it's posted by retail price.
The central location sees that the correct pricing is
entered in its database, that is, in the Pricing/Costing panel of the Items
register.
Each retail location sees that the adapted pricing is
entered in its database in its Items register.
4. Sequence of Operations
With valuation by wholesale price, it's
generally important that the correct sequence for entering data in the program
is followed - that is, a sequence that suits actual changes (receipts, price
changes, etc.).
Of course, this is very important for
the example we're looking at.
If C represents the central location,
and R the retail location, the sequence is as follows:
- C.1. The central location receives the goods and creates its own pricing.
- C.2. The central location creates a transfer document with its own sale
prices. It delivers the document to the retail location (using OTOS, for
example).
- R.1. The retail location receives the transfer slip, through which
it receives the goods at its own (retail) warehouse. In this transfer slip,
it outfits the items with its own retail prices. (the procedure that would
change the pricing in the document is not automatically supported. However,
a procedure that can be imported to the Wizards menu and that enables you to
transfer data from the Items register to the transfer slip is available at
ftp.datalab.si/sqli.
- R.2. Only once the prices in the transfer slip are outfitted with the
prices of the retail location can the retail location use the Wizard (see
Creating Price Change Documents) to create a price change document for
all articles it is receiving for the first time, or for which the price has
changed in terms of the data in the Items register.
- R.3. The retail location returns the transfer slip to the central
location
- C.3. The central location confirms and posts the returned transfer
document. (Data from the transfer document is imported for the sake of
overviews, reports - commercial records, and the automatic posting of
material consumption).
