Product specification is a basic element of product's multi-level specification structure and defining production processes. Whenever trying to define a plan and subsequently execute production process you have to create a product specification.
From product specification you can also create plan and manufacturing specifications.
Here we use the term "specification" as having a double meaning:
In general it represents a whole range of structural, technological and oprational manufacturing data using which you represent product structure and production processes. To put it simply, the expression represents both the specification as well as the technological production process.
More generally a specification (material specification) is used to specify
material structure of individual assemblies. That is, you specify what components or parts make up a certain assembly. Other terminology is used in this case such as for example spec, list of materials, material standard, recipe entry, formula, etc. The main factor are the main usage characteristics.
Technological procedure used in production represents the other type of infiormation appearing here. Basically it is a sequence of operations making up the procedure of production.
To create a specification you usually start from construction documentation of products. That is, use standard technological data fo material consumption in production. Normally, the "construction specification" cannot be directly copied to specification because it has to be taken into account that it mainly handles of a technological operating specification which should show the actual production process. It should also show the process of purchase (materials and services) and sales.
Technological procedures used in production can be found in the technological documentation of production processes.
Specifications represent a vital source of data when trying to perform processes in planning, releasing and monitoring manufacturing in the PANTHEON manufacturing module. Plus, it helps you in specifying material requirements and tracking stock.
Use product specification to specify the corresponding
module (assembly). Link modules to create a mult-level product structure. Bottom levels become part of higher levels in hierarchy. Even the most complex specification structure assemblies and production processes can be processed in an easy to use way. Each specification has a corresponding technological procedure in production.
At the bottom levels of specification you can find purchased materials (ingredients, raw materials) and at the top-most levels you will find finished products. Intermediate levels display semi-finished products. Here you have to consider that the specification structure si adaptable to changes occurring in the business process.
Usually every specification includes a material specifcation and technological procedure used in production. Occasionally a production is not processed due to its lesser priorty. In such a case the specification does not include technological procedure.
Order in which you create individual parts of specification is not important. To enter key data correctly so as to provide for as flawless monitoring of manufacturing and tracking stock as possible you are advised to use a highly systematic approach.

Phantoms are a special kind of specification. It handles of virtual specifications used mainly to make editing and updating complex specification structures simpler. Normally, such phantom specifications represent material assemblies excluding technological procedures used in production (operations). Typically, a phanotm assembly can be for example an assembly of component parts which are integrated in various products. They are not actual physical components.
Before actually trying to edit specifications, you have to defube basic initial data in the appropriate registers. Creat IDs for assemblies and components (in lines of material and operations) in the Items register.
Tools used in production are assigned IDs in the Fixed Assets or Small Tools
register.
In Hefaist module specifications are created for items of type P - Products (products / semi-finished products).
Specify resources (work centers, positions, machines) in the
Resources register. Specify regulations in the
Regulations register.
Set system settings of specification properties in
program parameters. Specify default values, field names and user-defined fields in
program parameters of specification.
