Creating an Ad-Hoc analysis

In addition to the predefined Ad-Hoc analyses, you can also create your own Ad-Hoc analyses in PANTHEON.

Below is an example of how to create an Ad-Hoc analysis in PANTHEON.

CASE SUMMARY

Tecta's person responsible wants to create a new Ad-Hoc analysis. as follows:

  1. Selecting the method for creating an Ad-Hoc analysis
  2. Selecting an existing Ad-Hoc analysis
  3. Editing the Ad-Hoc analysis pivot table
  4. Exporting the Ad-Hoc analysis to Excel
  5. Creating an Ad-Hoc analysis chart
  6. Saving an Ad-Hoc analysis as a template

1. Selecting the method for creating an Ad-Hoc analysis

Ad-Hoc analyses can be accessed in the navigation bar by opening the menu Settings | Program | Ad-Hoc analyses.

The person responsible creates a new analysis by clicking the toolbar button (Insert record).

An Ad-Hoc analysis can be created by selecting one of the following 3 methods:

In this case, the person responsible chooses to modify an existing Ad-Hoc analysis.

2. Selecting an existing Ad-Hoc analysis

The person responsible chooses to edit an existing Ad-Hoc analysis, which includes the measures and dimensions that the person responsible wants to edit in the new analysis.

HINT

Measures are fields that represent numeric values, such as Quantity, Value, Debit, Credit, Number of employees, etc.

Dimensions are fields that represent (mostly) non-numeric values or fields on which no computational operations are performed, such as Items, Subjects, Departments, Cost centers, Dates, Document Numbers, Accounts, etc.

By right-clicking the toolbar filter icon , the person responsible selects the existing Ad-Hoc analysis: Sales report current and last year.

HINT

Clicking the toolbar button opens the window SQL query. Here you can edit the query and see the measures and dimensions.

The selected Ad-Hoc analysis opens as a pivot table.

The person responsible can now edit the pivot table.

3. Editing the Ad-Hoc analysis pivot table

The person responsible wants to see the quantity and value of goods sold at Tecta's in-house bar in 2021.

For this purpose, the person responsible must edit the data in the pivot table.

By using the drag-and-drop function, the person responsible moves unwanted measures from the pivot table to other measures that are not needed in this use case.

Only the measures Quantity and Value remain.

To select the appropriate warehouse, the person responsible clicks the filter icon in the measure Warehouse.

By checkmarking the checkbox Warehouse BAR, the person responsible selects the Tecta's in-house bar warehouse.

Then, the person responsible moves the dimension Items to the Y-axis of the pivot table.

The table shows the desired sales data by item.

The person responsible can now export the data to Excel.

4. Exporting the Ad-Hoc analysis to Excel

The person responsible wants to export the data to Excel for further analysis.

For this purpose, the person responsible clicks the toolbar button .

The window Windows Explorer opens, where the user selects the desired file location and clicks the button Save.

Then, the person responsible creates an Ad-Hoc analysis chart.

5. Creating an Ad-Hoc analysis chart

To visualize the Ad-Hoc analysis data, the person responsible creates a chart.

In the table, the person responsible selects all the relevant data fields to be displayed in the chart.

The person responsible can select between vertical and horizontal chart. To create the chart, the person responsible clicks the corresponding toolbar button .

The Ad-Hoc analysis chart is displayed.

The chart can be additionally modified using the toolbar buttons.

The person responsible then saves the Ad-Hoc analysis as a template.

6. Saving an Ad-Hoc analysis as a template

The person responsible wants to reuse the current Ad-Hoc analysis, which is why the Ad-Hoc analysis needs to be saved as a template.

In the Ad-Hoc analysis toolbar, the person responsible clicks the button (Templates).

From the menu, the person responsible selects the option Form templates | Save current as template.

The window Edit templates opens.

In the field Name, the person responsible enters a name for the template and saves it by clicking the button (Post edit).
