Licensing – Licenses

For proper operation, PANTHEON requires a corresponding license, which it receives from the Datalab web server after the serial number has been entered. The license is determined by the serial number, which is used to download authorization codes from the Datalab web server to determine the proper use.

HINT

The license for PANTHEON software suite gives you the right to install, use, access, display, run or otherwise change the program, subject to the terms and conditions that depend on the way of use described in the chapter Using PANTHEON licenses.

After PANTHEON has been installed, two unique identifiers determine the proper use:

  1. Serial number of PANTHEON and
  2. Server "fingerprint", which includes the SQL Server instance name, serial number and other unique data (instance name, Windows serial number and/or the computer or server on which the database is located).

Licenses can be assigned to any number of serial numbers, which can also indicate the location (business unit, subsidiary, etc.) where specific licenses can be used.

The assignment of licenses depends on your business needs and the configuration of the computer network on which you are installing PANTHEON.

In the chapter Licenses, the following concepts are explained:

WARNING
  • Like most other license agreements, License Agreement for the DATALAB PANTHEON Software Suite also prohibits the user from lending, renting or selling licenses and using them outside the user's company. The exception includes registered accountancy firms, which may nevertheless lend licenses to their customers under the rules set out below.
  • Improper licensing or breach of a license agreement is extremely costly. In addition to penalties for the legal entity and the person responsible, in such cases legislation also stipulates damages up to THREE TIMES THE LICENSE PRICE!
  • The basic rule of licensing is that the same serial number cannot be installed/used on two different SQL Servers or two different SQL Server instances at the same time.
  • If the type of license allows for this, one serial number may be used in multiple databases on the same server. The license holder may provide accounting services for any number of companies on its server and any number of license versions.
