Editing Product Specification

Setting-up and Editing a Product Specification

010383.gif

As already mentioned in the previous topic, product specification is an integral part of the multi-level specification of products. It contains detailed production processes. Whenever trying to define a plan and subsequently execute a production process, you have to create product specification.

Open product specification to create plan and manufacturing specifications.

Use product specification to specify a corresponding module (assembly). You can link modules to create a multi-level product structure. Taht is, Bottom levels are subordinate to higher levels in hierarchy.

In specification module specify ID, lines of assembly (for more information see Add Lines) and lines of operations (for more information see Add Operations) of technological procedure.

You can create multiple alternates of product specification. This way you can plan use of alternate materials and operations. First, the so-called initial alternate (0) is created, followed by alternates ranging from 1 to 255.

When editing specifications you can create, change, view/look up, delete them and generate reports.

000001.gif You can set up and edit product specifications in the window which opens after clicking the Product Specification menu item.

The window is divided into multiple panels. You can resize the window and each individual panel to fit individual needs and requirements.

Above you can see a taskabar with program information (left) and window controls on the right.

Below you can observe header of specification or item. It contains specification-related data and offers three tabs:

  • The General tab contains general data about specification. You can make certain changes at will.
  • In the Alternates panel you can specify scheduling for individual alternates. They are treated in detail separately.
  • View stored and archived specification-related data in the History panel. See follow up for details.

On the left, there is a multi-level tree strucutre view of the selected specification. For a detailed treatment of commands in tree strucutre see Specification Tree Structure.

Lines of specification and alternates are listed on the right. There are three tabs in the bottom section.

  • Specification - Here you can view specification lines of materials and operations.

On the right site of product spcification you can see picutures of product (loaded in Item) and their components.

Lines of the Specification Panel

Line Displays a number of line of specification included in the parent specification.
Alt. Displays a number of alternate line of specification included in the parent specification.
Item Displays an item ID.
Name Displays a name of item. Clicking the icon in note field displays additional description which you can modify. If additional description already exists in line, the icon is grey and displayed in bold type.
Batch Displays quantity of batch.
U/M Displays a unit of measurement used in specification.
Volume Displays number of units in specification expressed in set unit of measurement. Here the volume amount can range from 1 to 1,000,000 units.
Item Type Displays an item type.
Prim. Cat. Displays a primary category ID.
Sec. Category Displays a secondary category ID.

Both the remaining panels, that is, Materials and Operations are dealt with in detail separately.

  • Materials - Includes a list of materials of specification which you can also modify and change at will.
  • Operations - Includes a list of operations of technological procedure which you can also modify and change at will.
  • Product waste/scrap - Includes a list of wxpected procentage of wastage and scrap, which you can also modify and change at will.

In the right bottom side of the Product Specification window you have the To History button. Use it to transfer current specification to history.

000001.gif A new window is opened displaying specification history. For sake of data transparency you can have multiple windows opened simultaneously.

Product Specification Settings in Administration Panel

Having checked Exclusive Spec Editing it checks how many users work on a specification, preventing multiple unauthorized users from editing it. Otherwise the following message appears.

For a more detailed treatment of specification-related data see Add Lines (specification) , Add Operations (technical procedure) and Product Waste/Scrap (Side products).
