The Items Categories has three functions:

  • First of all, use it to assign categories to items and merge them into product groups. Based on item categories you can generate various reports - report for monitoring sales, determining product combinations and determining profitability of individual product groups. Here you can also set contract prices for the whole category: discount, formula (for calculating sale price), etc. For more information see Contract Prices.
  • Secondly, it simplifies entering of items belonging to a category. Here you can set predefined item types, serial number tracking, warranty and other data. This greatly reduces chances of errors occurring when in the Items register (for more information see Default Values, Costing/Pricing and Custom Fields).
  • Thirdly, use it to copy data to an already created Items register having previously specified the item's category (for more information see Costing/Pricing and Copy).

  • When entering a NEW item ID, default values get recorded in the register after entering a category.
  • If you enter an ID of category in the Items register, corresponding data can only be copied from the Copy panel in Item Categories.
