Entry of animal breeds

Program PANETHON VET  allows each veterinary clinic to build its own animal classification system. Within the species of animals, it classifies breeding and social animals by breeds. Animal breeds are created through artificial selection and are defined based on certain characteristics (production or visual).

The functionality is available by clicking in the menu Veterinary | Codes | Code of animal species.

TIP

You can read more about the animal breeds section in the PANTHEON VET Guide, Animal breeds.

Below, we have prepared an example of entering a new animal breed for you.

example description

The veterinarian wants to enter a new breed of animal in the animal species code: Lipizzaner, for the existing species of animals: equines, category of animals: horse. This is done in the following steps:

  1. Opening the Code of animal species
  2. Entering a new breed code

1. Opening the Code of animal species

The responsible person wants to create a new breed code for the animal species: Lipizzaner in the animal species code.

For this purpose, they select the menu Veterinary | Codes | Code of animal species.

The code of animal species opens, in which they have built their own animal classification system.

In the section Animal species they find: Equines.

TIP

The responsible person can review the codes of animal species in the code using the toggle (Show only active). When the toggle is checked, only active records are displayed in the list, while when it is empty, both active and inactive records of codes are shown.

When they click on the position of the desired animal species, the existing category records are filled in the lower section Animal categories , in our case these are:

  • 1 - Mare
  • 2 - Horse
  • 3 - Stallion
  • 4 - Foal
  • 5 - Donkey
  • 6 - Mule.

They select the desired category: Horse.

They continue with entering a new breed code in the lower section.

2. Entering a new breed code

The responsible person positions themselves on the record of the category: horse in the section Animal categories.

In the section Animal breeds all breeds that are entered under this category of animals are displayed.

They position themselves on the last record in the list of breeds and by clicking the navigation key on the keyboard  (Down) or by clicking the key INSERT, they create a new position.

TIP

Deleting a record or position is possible with the key combination CTRL + DELETE.

In the column Code, a new sequential breed code is automatically created, which the responsible person cannot change or edit. In our case, the code created is: 13.

In the column Name they enter the name of the breed, in our case: LIPIZZANER.

WARNING

The name must be unique, it must NOT be repeated.

The column Original name is intended for a longer name of the breed. In our case, they write: Lipizzaner horse.

The column External ID is left empty.

TIP

The column External ID is intended for data exchange with other programs.

The toggle in the column Activedefines whether the breed code is active or not.

Upon confirming the new record, by clicking the navigation keys on the keyboard  (Down) and (Up), the toggle is automatically marked as active.

Similarly, in the column Mixed with the marked toggle, we define whether the entry is for a mixed breed.

TIP

The column Mixed is important when entering dog breeds.
